CONSTRUCTION: FILMING CASINO SCENE

CONSTRUCTION: CASINO SCENE, FILMING

Thursday 25th November

Location: School

Room: Drawing Room

This was the only scene we filmed with more than one/two people in the scene. We sent out our call sheets to all the member of the cast who where in this scene, so everyone was aware of the timings and scenes.

I framed the shot where the extras, where centred more to the right hand side of the frame, and the main character (Tom), enters the room form the far right hand corner. Him entering after/later than everyone else suggests that he he does not fit into this social group. And that the corporate employees who are already sat professionally at the table do not respect or appreciate Tom. This is this last chance for him to gain any, sort of purpose for his life and future. And with his facial expressions, and camera movements/angles the audiences sees just how anxious and frustrated he is about this game.

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING / MONEY DEAL SCENE

Construction: Money deal scene

This is one of the final scenes we shot. It involved the one glimpse of hope the audience encounters in the trailer. Where the protagonist of out trailer/film is handed an important envelope filled with money inside of it, that he takes and runs away with it. I framed the shot where the camera is above Tom (the main character), so connote that I am the bigger/inferior person compared to him, who now has very little in his life. This shoot was successful, we filmed the shoots a few times though, so that I found the right angle with Tom in the frame. And the location of the house/mini huts where also a good location (from the location recce) that we used for when he realises he had been ‘kicked out of his house’ because he did not pay his rent on time.

PLANNING: INSPIRATION + SCRIPT WRITING

Thursday 18th November

PLANNING: INSPIRATION + PLANNING

Before writing our script we decided to watch scenes from poker games in films and tv shows such as: How I Met Your Mother, Gilmore Girls & Casino Royale. In many of the scenes, like Casino Royale for example: we watched it three/four times and noticed that many of the casino scenes in the episodes or movies had short (one word) dialogue, with turn-taking between the dealer and the player of the game (or other players involved).

In this lesson myself and Tom wrote and finalised our script using the platform Celtx to write casino dialogue scene, in our film trailer. We discussed that the dialogue is short would be the best option as in the trailers we watched the dialogue was dropped in the scenes. A drip effect, is used in many of the trailers we watched where dialogue is heard. The most powerful and important lines from the movies are said in many of the trailers. So, when writing our script, we made it a concise and short dialogue.

CONSTRUCTION: ELEVATOR SCENES

 CONSTRUCTION: ELEVATOR SCENES

In school Shooting: Elevator

We are particularly pleased with the framing of this particular shot to show the evaluator is in line with the positioning Tom holding the cardboard box. I (the camera operator) set up this shot, very carefully. In order to position Tom in the centre of the frame, but trapped between tall/high walls, on the one hand and an elevator with iron bars that resemble a prison cell on the other. This connotes the path he is going towards/down (criminal, unhappy behaviour he is going down). Tom had the idea of using intensely angry and sad facial expressions to show the characters feelings about just being fired.

The second scene we shot, was Tom being in the evaluator and me outside filming him going down. However, we encounter a lighting issue: which was that in the elevator there was only one light above Tom and the camera could not see his whole body in the frame. To solve this issue, I stood further away with the camera so we had outside lighting as well as the lighting inside the elevator. This created a clear balance of both lighting when I was moving the camera to pan down Tom (the main character).

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING ON THE SET

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING, WOODLAND AREA

Myself and Tom, both completed film shoots outside of school during the holidays. We filmed the main scenes from our storyboard. The main scenes consisted of chase scenes: where the main character runs through the narrowed pathed, isolated woodsThe main scenes consisted of chase scenes: where the main character runs through the narrowed pathed, isolated woods. With some shots having trees, closing inwards as here is quickly running away from is problems that are rapidly coming towards him. The reason we chose this particular scenery/location is because we wanted to find a woodland area that was completely isolated, and empty from the outside world (where there is the buzz of people, his employees, the world around him are) and here the people have pushed him “up against the wall” to make him feel empty and worthless. Hence why, we decided to choose a location like this where very few are seen here in the deep ends of the woods and isolated area.

PLANNING: RISK ASSESSMENT

Risk Assessment for Ground Floor: 3 Main Scenes

First Aid: In order to carry out a safe filming session, off-site we bought with us a first aid kit, that included the basic essentials (badges, plasters etc…) in case either one of us had an injury whilst filming.

Weather: In order to avoid injury from the weather (storms, raining), we checked the weather in the set locations in which we were filming, to avoid injuries and any damage to the camera equipment we were using (Canon Camera, Tripod).

Mode of Transport: Preesha, by car to the first off-site location. Tom, walking to first off-site location.

Accommodation: No overnight stay (N/A)

Overall Level of Risk For Production: We only risk assessed the three main scene as the majority of our filming took place on-site all in filmed in a safe way. Many of the scenes that were not the running scenes, involved us being at school filming in boardrooms / staff office space or outside on the school grounds where it was safe to do so. The rest of the scenes we filmed, we successful in that everyone on set we’re safe and there was minimal risk involved when filming these particular scenes.
